Rick Sousa

President AGGV Foundation
Ex-Officio

I was born and raised in the lower mainland and graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Double Major in History and Economics, with a certificate in Liberal Arts. I then moved to Victoria in 1999 to study law at the University of Victoria. After obtaining a LLB in 2002, I studied international business law in Japan and received a LLM in 2003 from Kyushu University.

After returning to Victoria, I practiced law at Crease Harman & Company. In 2006, I left the private practice of law and began my career in the provincial civil service. Currently, I work for the Ministry of Finance and as the Director of Policy, Rulings and Services in the Consumer Taxation Programs Branch.

I have had the honour of serving on the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria Foundation Board since January 2021 and recently became its President in June 2025.  In addition, I served on the General Committee of the Union Club of British Columbia from November 2017 to June 2021. During that time I chaired the Finance, Member Engagement and Member Recruitment sub-committees.

With respect to my interest in art, during my time in Japan, I developed an appreciation for Japanese art – both modern and traditional.  Moreover, as a member of the Union Club since 2005, I have long appreciated the art collection of the club, and supported events like Art + Fare and the Art Auctions that have been held at the club, which help fund the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
