Painting
William Phillip Watt
I was born in Banff Alberta, grew up in Surrey B.C. and finished high school on Vancouver Island. With certificates in graphic and fine art from the Kootenay School of Art, I finished a fine art degree from Notre Dame University of Nelson in 1976.
I have explored various art avenues (roads too) such as printmaking, photography, serigraphy, drawing and painting. In the last 30 years or so I have become more focused on painting the B.C. landscape in acrylics and oils. I try to reflect the “impression” of the scene while still respecting the actual place with colour and perspective but adjusting compositional elements for art’s sake.
I mostly look for a pristine view, unaltered by the human machine that could be grinding away at the edges of the board or canvas.
From time to time, I wander into the abstract world and the portrait mostly for practice at drawing.
