Dave Skilling
Dave first picked up a gouge and began carving a piece of lino seven years ago. He studied with Victoria Edgarr at Ground Zero Printmakers and with Pat Beaton and Heather Aston at MISSA (Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts). In addition, the work of artists Herbert Siebner and
Arnold Shives provided much early inspiration.
Dave enjoys the multi-stage process of printmaking and the assorted hand tools required to work with lino blocks. His prints are often abstract, drawing from the visual clues and patterns of his every day surroundings.
In early 2020 Dave joined Cecelia Press Studio where he has access to a beautiful Takach press and fully equipped printmaking studio. His practice is, however, also very portable and allows him to create small work in remote locations or when travelling.
Four prints from Dave’s Cabin Series were recently selected for the 43rd Mini Print International of Cadaqués, Spain. This annual exhibition included prints by artists from 42 countries and was shown in Spain, France and Great Britain throughout summer and autumn 2023.
As an active member of the Victoria arts community for many years, Dave has served as Executive Director of MISSA and as a board member with organizations including Fernwood Home Support Services, Theatre SKAM and MISSA. He is currently a member of PRINT (the Victoria Society of Print Artists) and the Victoria Arts Council.
