Transporters: Contemporary Salish Art

November 2, 2007 - November 2, 2007

Kindly supported by a generous gift from George Smyth. Transporters: Contemporary Salish Art is in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Canada Council for the Arts. The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is grateful for their support over these very important years. We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts which last year invested $17.1 million in visual arts throughout Canada.

Curated by Andrea Walsh and Cathi Charles Wherry this exhibition features the work of ten Salish artists from Southwest BC and Washington State in a cross-section of ideas and images that express new and long-held Salish visions and stories of the land, and post-colonial critiques of cultural appropriation. Participating artists: Charles Elliott, Susan Point, Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun , Marvin Oliver, lessLIE, Shaun Peterson, Chris Paul, John Marston, Luke Marston and Maynard Johnny Jr.
