Thursday, September 15th – animation screenings and artist talk. The Further Adventures of Girl is an ongoing, ever-expanding series of works that explore questions of how group identity, national identity, and militarism are depicted in popular culture.
The series centres on the figure of Girl, a young golden-skinned, ethnically-ambiguous character who exists in a candy-coloured, post-apocalyptic world. The Further Adventures of Girl currently exists as large scale digital prints, short animated videos, cut-plastic sculptures, and printed banners. New drawings for an upcoming graphic novel, which will show the transformation of Girl into a comic-book heroine, will also be included in the exhibition. Diyan Achjadi is a Vancouver based artist and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Visual Art and Material Practice at Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
