National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Sep 30 | 12:00 pm - 5:00 pmWe at the AGGV acknowledge and extend our gratitude for the collaborations, partnerships, and relationships with Indigenous community members and organizations that have developed over the years. We also acknowledge the significant learning and unlearning that we as an institution need to undertake as we continue to work to address and rectify systemic barriers and racism that exist in the structures of arts institutions and within our own actions.
In honour of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we offer free admission to the Gallery and the exhibitions Lekwungen: Place to Smoke Herring; Architectures of Protection; Meryl McMaster: Bloodline, and A View From Here: Reimagining the AGGV Collection, alongside the opportunity to create your own artworks in the Spencer Gallery.
We also encourage you to participate in community events that commemorate this day of truth and reconciliation. Community events in recognition of this day include:
Orange Shirt Day — University of Victoria
South Island Powwow — Songhees Nation
