Black Sci-Fi Sounds
Oct 6 | 6:00 pm - 7:30 pmHosted by film and dance artist Kemi Craig, Blackspace Sci-Fi Club is a space to gather and explore fantasy, speculative narratives, and science fiction by and for people of the African diaspora. Over three sessions, a lounge space will be offered at the Gallery, for participants to imagine, dream, be empowered, and be inspired by stories that conceptualize Blackness at the merging of past, present, and future. Listen to records from visionaries such as Drexciya, Sun Ra, Grace Jones, Janelle Monae, Sons of Kemet, Flying Lotus, and Shabazz Palaces. These musicians and performance artists use mediums of jazz, techno, and pop to fabricate undersea worlds, intergalactic homes, and new perspectives on our everyday experiences. Bring a favorite artist that you would like to add as well!
