Conversations
with Lucie Rie
October 17, 2014 - October 17, 2014Curated by Toby Lawrence | Drury Gallery
Lucie Rie is renowned for her modernist aesthetic and functional sensibilities. The prolific studio output of the Austrian-born British potter spanned seven decades–a significant contribution to the history of ceramics in the 20th century. With works drawn primarily from the collection of the AGGV, Conversations with Lucie Rie considers the development of Rie’s work and the impact she had on her contemporaries and subsequent generations of ceramic and non-ceramic based artists, curators, collectors, and admirers. This exhibition includes works by Lucie Rie, Hans Coper, Bernard Leach, and Stephen Andrews, in addition to a recent performance-based work by British artist Keith Harrison.
