Dean Lawton, KC
Dean Lawton is Associate Counsel with Carfra Lawton LLP in Victoria, B.C.; a law firm he co-founded in 1985. Dean has represented a wide range of individuals, businesses, professionals, elected officials, and Not-for-Profit organizations in all levels of court in B.C. and in the Supreme Court of Canada, and was recognized for his expertise in insurance law by Best Lawyers Canada. He is a co-founding member of Risk Management Counsel of Canada and a credentialed mediator and member of Mediate B.C.
Over his career, Dean served as President and executive of the Victoria Bar Association and the Law Society. In 2013 he was elected a Bencher of the Law Society of BC and in 2018 was appointed representative for the law societies of the western provinces to the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action Advisory Committee.
Dean is an author, speaker and educator. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (QC) in 2016, and by Royal succession, King’s Counsel (KC) in 2022.
