New Extreme Mural Celebration
Jun 23 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmCome celebrate with us! The Art Gallery of Victoria is going to be home to a beautiful new mural created by Esquimalt High students, mentored by Artists Jenna Lancaster and Jesse Campbell, as part of this year’s New Extreme Youth Art Mentorship Program. The mural is inspired by the groups’ conversations about how we can better care for the land and waters, and how all of our stories are embedded in the land. In this case, these lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples.
This mural as well as a project by Vic High’s Students of Colour Association (SOCA) will be shared and honoured. SOCA was mentored by Artist Angelique Bulosan, and the group was inspired by discussions of anti-racism, decolonization and equity, to create linocuts and printed tote bags.
We will gather to celebrate with the students, artists, family and friends – and the wider community, everyone’s invited!
Join us at the AGGV, June 23 6-8pm!
We are very grateful that Lekwungen Cultural Facilitator and Artist, Bradley Yuxwelupton Dick will support us in closing this program in a good way.
Looking forward to celebrating with you all!
(For those wondering about the incredible (current) mural coming down just before June 23, by Coup des Déesses (Strike of the Goddesses), it will have a new home at Vic High in the near future.)
