Woodblock Prints of Kiyoshi Saito (1907-97)
September 14, 2007 - September 14, 2007Kiyoshi Saito was the first modern Japanese printmaker to become popular in the West and is credited with being one of the main reasons why modern Japanese prints became a major success the world over. In tracing the evolution of Saito’s style one clearly sees evidence of the strong relationship the artist had with the West combined with the subtleties and richness of his own traditions. The exhibition includes some eighty prints from the Gallery’s collection of works by Kiyoshi Saito.
