Artful Transformations

February 16, 2000 - February 16, 2000

Humour, whimsy, irony and sincere flattery. All of these come into play as 40 significant contemporary Canadian artists artfully re-interpret 12 works from the Gallery?s permanent collection ? ranging from Maxwell Bates? Odalisque to Emily Carr?s Lagoon at Albert Head and Tang Dynasty Bactrian Camel tomb figurines and more.

Artists often respond generously to requests with donations of their works for worthy causes. What could be more appropriate than inviting Canadian artists to support this province?s major art gallery ? the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria ? where there own works have been exhibited, collected and loaned. They enthusiastically responded in their desire to invest in this gallery which will collect and exhibit visual art for future generations to enjoy.
