Moccasin Making Workshop with Lindsay Delaronde

Walking in the Steps of Your Ancestors: a three-part in-person workshop series.

Explore gift giving through making this holiday season! Please join us at the Gallery for a hands-on workshop with artist Lindsay Delaronde, from the Kanienkehaka nation.

Learn Indigenous beading and moccasin making with Lindsay who carries ways of being and knowing that nurture self exploration and ancestral ties. Everyone is invited to think about their ancestors and walk with them in this space.

This program is in conjunction with Adorned. 

Attendance to all three sessions is required to complete this workshop:

Session 1: Thursday, December 8 | 6PM – 8:30 PM
Session 2: Thursday, December 15 | 6PM – 8:30 PM
Session 3: Saturday, December 17  | 9AM – 5PM (includes a ‘build-your-own sandwich’ lunch and light refreshments).

Artist Bio:

My name is Lindsay Katsitsakatste Delaronde, I am Kanienke’haka from Kahnawake. I hold a Master’s degree in Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in the Indigenous Communities Counseling Psychology Program from the University of Victoria. I am currently enrolled in a PHD in Applied Theatre at UVIC.

My artistic practice focuses on Indigenous theatre, land-based/site-specific performance art, collaborative practice, cultural resurgence and social/political activism through the arts, healing and decolonization. My artistic media include land- based photography, performance/theatre, movement/dance and visual studio arts.

I held the position as the first Indigenous Artist in Residence for the City of Victoria 2017-2019. Co- facilitator for the collaborative project Achord. Visionary/Facilitator for both Indigenous Symposiums, Performance as Medicine (2017), and Making as Medicine (2018). Creative Vision/Co-facilitator/Community engagement for both Indigenous showcases Pendulum (2018) & Supernova (2019), at the Belfry Theatre. Story-weaver and creative vision for Bury the Hatchet (2022). Founder & Artistic Director for the Visible Bodies Collective. Dance residency recipient at Dance Victoria 2020-2023. Director for the film Mother: embodied earth performances (2021), Co- founder and Artistic Director for the Culture Den Society.
