Workshop: On Forest Paths of Ocean

In conjunction with As waters merge – swaying waves beckoning us closer, exhibiting artist Charles Campbell offers an afternoon workshop to explore the opening up process that underpins his artwork, Breath Portraits.

Participants will be guided through a meditative journey to connect their breath with that of their forebearers, giving windows into the lives and perceptions of ancestors. Conversations that relate to joys, sorrows, and sensorial experiences will then follow. The afternoon concludes with refreshments. 

This is a free program open to anyone who self-identifies as Black, Indigenous, a Person of Colour, and/or multi-racial.

As waters merge – swaying waves beckoning us closer runs from June 6, 2026 to October 4, 2026, and is organized by the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and Guest-Curated by Camille Georgeson-Usher with Jazmine Andrew, Curatorial Assistant.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Charles Campbell is a Jamaican born multidisciplinary artist, writer, and curator based on lək̓ʷəŋən territory, Victoria BC. Using sculpture, sound, installation, and performance, his work pulls at the threads of time. Finding channels into the past and future Campbell reconstructs broken somatic, communal, and spiritual connections, creating spaces of solace and meaning for all of us living in the wake of slavery and colonization. Campbell’s artworks have been exhibited widely in the Caribbean, Canada, and internationally. He is the recipient of numerous awards and holds an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College and a BFA from Concordia University.
