Rodin: A Magnificent Obsession

Gerald Cantor Foundation This acclaimed exhibition demonstrates the intensely expressive work of the French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), who, at the peak of his career, was considered the greatest sculptor since Michelangelo and is now acknowledged as the ‘father of modern sculpture.

Featuring his most famous and beloved works such as the ‘The Thinker,’ ‘The Kiss’ and ‘The Age of Bronze’ this comprehensive retrospective of over 60 bronzes also includes many of the artist’s studies for such major monuments as ‘The Burghers of Calais,’ ‘The Gates of Hell,’ and ‘The Monument to Balzac’ as well as photographs and etchings.

This exhibition has been organized by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation which holds the world’s largest private collection of Rodin sculptures. The works in this exhibition are originals, either cast during Rodin’s lifetime or cast posthumously according to his explicit wishes and instructions to the French government.
