THE SPIRIT OF NOVA SCOTIA
December 4, 1986 - December 4, 1986Over 300 pieces of historical folk art are on display in what has been billed as the most comprehensive survey of traditional Nova Scotian folk art ever assembled.
There are utilitarian objects such as quilts and coverlets, penny mats and painted sailcloth mats, last-look and courting mirrors, butterprints, boxes of every shape and variety – candle and cutlery boxes, hat boxes, document and money boxes, trinket boxes – as well as hanging shelves.
There are paintings, watercolours and drawings, sculptures, decoys, rocking horses and weathervanes.
The exhibition, organized by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia with guest curator Richard Henning Field, is crossing Canada on a two year sea-to-sea tour.
