Sally Chupick

Born in Nova Scotia in 1956, Sally grew up in Canada & Europe. Her background in fashion design grew into a love for painting. She has worked as an artist for 30 years.

“I combine what I see and feel to get beyond the literal and find a harmony in something new. I’m completely fascinated by colour and its evocative nature.  I’m looking for the universal rather than specifics.  To me, it’s the paint quality, not the image that is most interesting.

I work in traditional oils and oil sticks experimenting with modes of paint application.  I mix a direct and indirect approach, adding subtracting, layering, glazing, and scribbling until the work feels right.

My studio works range from semi-abstracted contemporary landscapes, floral, figurative and still life.”
