Ron Noganosh It Takes Time

July 12, 2002 - July 12, 2002

Sculpture, assemblages and installations represent a span of 20 years of production by senior Ojibway artist Ron Noganosh. Central to Ron Noganosh’s art production are the complex and intertwined issues of survival in contemporary Native communities, including language, the environment, natural resources, territory, culture, identity, community, health, technology and self-governance. Just as central is the awareness that these issues are shared by communities around the world, that the local and the global are inseparable. Ron Noganosh’s work is known for its humour, its critical edge, and its political punch. It relies on a unique combination of traditional art materials and found, discarded materials salvaged from our culture of consumption, and recycled into artworks.

Born in 1949 in Magnetawan, Ontario, Ron Noganosh now works as an artist in Ottawa. His work can be found in private and public collections including the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
