Pierre Dorion: Solo
May 2, 2003 - May 2, 2003A 20-year retrospective of the paintings of this prominent Montreal artist exploring themes of
isolation and the isolation of the work of the painter. Dorion’s work has reflected his interest in
art history, with his paintings evoking imagery of little known artists or Renaissance masters,
inventors of perspective boxes and the camera obscura. Architecture plays an important role in
his work, whether through interior or exterior views or the use of walls and windows to demonstrate other issues of perspective. Another body of work investigates the formal aspects of self-portraiture and its relationship to photography. Solo demonstrates the artist’s systematic and sensitive approach to art and his vibrant homage to painting.
This exhibition is the first presentation of Dorion’s work in Victoria and is organized and
circulated by the Galerie d’art du Centre culturel de l’Universit? de Sherbrooke.
