In Search of the Picturesque
January 16, 2001 - January 16, 2001The picturesque, as an aesthetic tradition, became popular in the latter part of the 18th and early 19th centuries. This small exhibition of prints curated by George Wallace illustrates some of the characteristics of this type of imagery.
Using prints from his private collection, Professor Wallace lets us glimpse The Picturesque in landscapes filled with varied foliage and interspersed with waterfalls, rocky promontories or ruined buildings.
