Karen Kaiser
Working in oils, Karen Kaiser creates colourful urban landscapes with an emphasis on atmosphere and light.
Born in Halifax, she grew up in rural Ontario and on the Atlantic Coast before moving to Victoria 22 years ago. “The memory of those landscapes and buildings has stayed with me, and I find that my paintings are somehow infused with an Eastern and Atlantic Canadian essence. Although this isn’t intentional, it gives my work a Canadian feel.”
Karen’s urban landscape paintings portray our many neighbourhoods here in Victoria, and our more rural areas in BC. “Form and light inspire me. I mostly compose a painting from the memory of what I saw and felt, blending sensations and visuals from within the same general area. I love the idea of capturing a moment in time of some of our most recognizable places.”
