Art of The Colour Woodblock
August 5, 1999 - August 5, 1999More than 20 years after his death, Walter J. Phillips’ colour woodblock prints continue to enthral us. His art, whether of landscape, flowers, native motifs or people, is always poignant. His unerring sense of colour, flawless draughtsmanship and harmonious composition characterize all the working stages of his artist process. A representative selection of Phillips’ most important prints is included.
Residing in Sidney, B.C., Graham Scholes has a reputation for his woodblock prints and watercolours. For the last five years, using the medium of Japanese woodblock printmaking, he has been recording B.C.’s lighthouses thus capturing an important chapter of the province’s history. This exhibition includes 25 lighthouse images.
