DescriptionThe skirt is made of purple silk woven with a hidden design of the 8 treasures of Buddhism: the mystic knot, the fish, the conch shell, the canopy, the state umbrella, the lotus, the sacred jar & the wheel of the law. Motifs of embroidery include: identical panel of 4 women in landscape, at front & back of skirt. Major flower motifs are: plum (symbol of winter, longevity), peony(symbol of purity, love, beauty, wealth), & lotus(symbol of summer, purity, fruitfulness). On the border of the skirt: scenes of ladies in a landscape setting, holding a plum branch or a fan, or resting beside a balustrade. Major plant motifs are: plum, lotus, chrysanthemum, orchid, wisteria(spring flower), willow tree(also a sign of spring) & pine trees(evergreen , symbol of longevity)Status
