The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria recognizes the commitment and expertise from each of our volunteers as one of the most valuable assets to our organization. We have more than 300 volunteers who work together with our staff as Gallery Shop assistants, docents, special event hosts, as well as in many departments including Education, Advancement and our annual TD Art Gallery Paint-In. If you are keen on learning and love art, we would be eager to hear from you!

Please remember to fill out a Volunteer Application if you are a new to our program. While you are filling out the application, you will be able to select the various tasks and departments that interest you.

From time to time, our Advancement (including Communications), Curatorial & Collections, and Accounting  departments require extra help with filing, photocopying, stuffing envelopes, etc. Administration volunteers are on an on-call basis. Previous office experience is preferred but not essential.

Hospitality & Special Events
The Gallery hosts many special events during the year including opening receptions, private functions and URBANITE, an evening event inspired by our current exhibitions. Positions in hospitality involve greeting (information providers,) set-up/take down, coat check, manning of membership tables, and serving food and drinks, etc.

TD Art Gallery Paint-In
As one of Victoria's largest one-day festivals, the TD Art Gallery Paint-In sees about 200 volunteers participate in this event annually. Over 35,000 locals and visitors alike come to celebrate art and community, interacting with over 150 artists who take part in the Paint-In each year. This key Gallery event is held the third Saturday each July and spans Moss Street from Fort all the way down to Dallas Rd. The TD Art Gallery Paint-In wouldn't be possible without the valuable contribution of our volunteers who are greeters, surveyors, photographers, donation & membership drivers and so much more!

Family Sundays
Family Sundays are offered once per month, October through June from 2 – 4 pm. Each event focuses on a current exhibition or related topic offering the participants the opportunity to make art, learn about the art and to have fun. Volunteers facilitate the art making and help with the set up and take down of the event. Volunteers should be comfortable working with children and have some experience with art making.

Docent Program
Docents are needed to lead tours of the Gallery exhibitions. Well informed and trained to engage the visitor they are one of our most important public engagement programs.

Gallery Shop
The Shop carries a unique collection of gifts and publications that have been chosen to compliment and support the gallery exhibitions. The range of items includes locally handmade products, printed materials, as well as apparel and children’s toys. Volunteers help with sales and display.

Art Sales and Rentals
As part of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, the Art Rental and Sales program presents an ever-changing and diverse inventory of high-quality original works by over 100 emerging and established local artists, who receive a significant portion of revenues from the program. The Art Rental & Sales program also makes a significant contribution towards the operating budget of the Gallery, ensuring the well-being of collections while at the same time providing valuable exposure for local artists in both domestic and corporate settings. Volunteers help with the program by supporting the artists and exhibitions.

The Associates
Since 1953 the Associates of the Art Gallery Greater Victoria have supported the Gallery by raising funds for and promoting interest in the Gallery and its broader artistic community. Active Gallery membership is required to join the Associates.
