Descriptionportrait of Amerbach in robe and hat; latin inscriptions on plaque after a painting by Holbein.Hans Holbein the younger painted the portrait of Bonifacius Amerbach on an 11 1/4 x 10 7/8 panel in 1579. It is regarded as Holbein's most dramatic portrait. Amerbach was the son of Johannes Amerbach the Basel printer and publisher. bonifacius later became a professor of law at the University of Basel. the portrait is now int the Kunsmuseum in Basel according to George Wallace
