Open Call for AGGV Board of Directors
The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is seeking new members for our Board of Directors.
The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (AGGV) has been collecting and programming art for the public for over 70 years and is embarking on a new chapter in its history. If you are passionate about the role of the visual arts in communities and have diverse experiences, expertise, and perspectives, then we invite you to apply to serve on the AGGV Board!
It is an exciting time to join the Board of the AGGV as it works with the community to rethink the role of the Gallery and develop a new vision, mission, and strategic plan.

This volunteer position will work in a collaborative environment to provide oversight and direction to the AGGV’s CEO and senior management team. Board members work with each other and the CEO to oversee the strategic direction of the organization. The Board is made up of people who are interested in art and are able to contribute to the governance of the organization by bringing knowledge, experience or expertise in:
- EDI governance and planning
- Visual arts or art history
- Marketing and communications
- Fundraising
- Building/construction
- Financial management
- Human resources
- Legal
- Board members are elected by the membership for two-year terms at the AGM in June
- Attend six to eight board meetings annually including a board retreat
- Actively serve on one of our committees
- Advocate for the Gallery’s mission in the community and among your colleagues and peers
- Be a member of the Gallery
- Make a personally significant contribution to the Gallery
Candidates are advised that to be eligible for consideration as a Board Director for the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, the following criteria must be met: Pursuant to section 44 of the Societies Act, each Director shall be an individual who:
i. is at least 18 years of age;
ii. has not been found by a court in Canada or elsewhere to be mentally incompetent; and
iii. does not have the status of a bankrupt.
