Nancy Ruhl
Nancy Ruhl is an internationally exhibited artist with a studio in Victoria, British Columbia. She has been a working artist for over two decades, painting in acrylics on canvas or board. Having studied at both the University of Guelph and Sheridan College, Ruhl combines technical skill with a keen eye for detail and, often, an unexpected use of colour. Although her work covers a wide range of subjects, Ruhl has a special interest in architecture.
In the March 2014 cover story in Victoria-based Focus Magazine, writer Aaren Madden said Ruhl’s paintings “. . . offer vivid homage to domestic architecture while documenting a changing cityscape.” Ruhl is a well sought-after commissioned artist for her architectural paintings and her work hangs in government office buildings, businesses, and private collections.
Ruhl’s technique brings her subjects uniquely to life, instilling a kind of surreal yet familiar quality to her work. Her mature and well honed style, in part influenced by her love of Canada’s Group of Seven, is easily identifiable. Ruhl’s work is both serious and playful. Her painting, Chesterman Beach, was used for the cover of a European edition of the novel The Story of Lucy Gault,written by William Trevor.
