BiographyCoast Salish artist; Chris Paul, a member of the Saanich Nation, was born in 1969 on Tsartlip Reserve in Brentwood Bay, BC. Initially drawn in by ceremonies and other culturally significant events, he was inspired to pursue art by the experiences of his youth. He was influenced by the work of various celebrated artists, including Charles Elliott, Susan Point, Joe Wilson, Robert Davidson, and Roy Henry Vickers. Through his two apprenticeships, Paul emerged with a style that incorporates modern colours and traditional cultural designs. Paul uses a variety of media, including graphic work, wood, glass, and precious metals. He draws upon the events that happen in his life for inspiration in his work and is now focussed on public art projects. He is represented by Alcheringa Gallery.
