John Meredith

brother of William Ronald.Known for the rich detailing which made his earlier paintings so complex and explorable, in latter years his work grew thinner and sketchier. In his later work he used oils almost like watercolours, staining the thin paint onto the canvas in delicate, sensitive washes but the result was more empty and wan than lyrical and yearning. His works on paper on paper kept his earlier qualities.Globe and Mail March 8/03
