Elza Mayhew

BiographyElza Mayhew was a well known Victoria sculptor working from the 1950s to 1980s in bronze. She studied in BC under Jan Zack and later got her M.F.A. at the University of Oregon. In addition to local commissions she won national prizes such as the Canadian Outdoor Sculpure exhibition at the National Gallery where she won first prize in 1961. She represented Canada in the Venice Biennale in 1964. Her work brings together her interest in primitivism with modernist principles.Person TypeIndividual
