BiographyBorn in Sheffield, England Arthur Lismer emigrated to Canada and worked at Gripp Ltd, Toronto, a commercial art firm where he met Tom Thomson and several of the future members of the Group of Seven. Perhaps most popularly known for his association with the Group of Seven, he remained a great painter in his own right throughout his long and illustrious career, continually remaining fresh and innovative. He is also recognized for his great contribution to art education in Canada. He was known internationally for his ardent support of children's art and held positions at the Art Gallery of Toronto and Montreal Museum of Fine Arts teaching and running studio programs.
