Clare Leighton is one of the most significant printmakers of the 20th century. She was born and studied in England but became an American in 1945. She wrote and illustrated numerous books and became well known for her focus on rural subjects in the face of an urbanized society. She had great influence on many Canadian artists that are found in the AGGV collection such as many of the artists in the Beaver Hall Hill group and Edwin Holgate for example.
