Prudence Heward was another important member of the Montreal group of women artists known as the Beaver Hall Hill Group. Known for her portraits and landscapes of the region around Montreal, Heward approached her subjects with a loose modernism, capturing a sense of rhythm and boldness. She studied in Montreal under William Brymner and Maurice Cullen and then in Paris after the First World War. She won awards and exhibited widely in the 1930s.
