Statira Frame

Statira Frame was an artist who was a contemporary and friend of Emily Carr (Carr stayed in her house upon returning from France in 1911.) Frame studied at the New York Arts Student's League under Robert Henri who at one point wrote of her work: "I see in Mrs. Frames's work a very personal outlook, an interest in the beautiful design of nature and a decided sensitiveness to the orchestration of colour. She has surely a sense of beauty and romance of reality." When Frame died Emily Carr wrote" She had a deep desire to express herself through the medium of magnificent colour, since that was hers, and which was the chief characteristic of her work, dominating it with a joyous feeling of light, sunshine and colour that was truly beautiful." She exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada in the 1930s and was noted as one of Vancouver's best artists during that period. Upon her death the VAG held a memorial exhibition.
