BiographyFred Amess was born in London, England in 1909 and immigrated to Canada in 1913. He studied painting at the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts. He graduated In 1929, and in 1933, he was asked to join the school's faculty. Between 1952 and 1970, Amess served as the Vancouver School's principal. A significant BC artist with influence on generations of BC artists as a teacher. Amess exhibited regularly as part of the Annual B.C. Artists' Exhibitions and the B.C. Society of Artists between 1929 and 1961. One-man show venues include the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and Bau-Xi Gallery.Person TypeIndividual
