DescriptionThe skirt is decorated (Cantonese style) with panels of phoenix standing on a tree peony which grows out of the symbolic earth mountain arising from the sea. The wave pattern & the earth mountain represent the elements of water & earth respectively, & are frequently found embroidered on court robes. The phoenix is one of the 4 supernatural creatures & an auspicious symbol. The peony is a symbol of spring, wealth, love & beauty. The panels are bordered with thin strips of dark blue silk which is embroidered with patterns of flowers & birds, & bats at the lower corners
