DescriptionThis statue represents the crawling infant Krishna stealing a ball of butter in his right hand and using his left hand for support. The child god according to tradition was inordinately fond of butter, and would steal it as often as he could. Most representations of this type were small and intended for domestic shrines. He is always depicted naked, but richly adorned with jewellry. The sculptor has obviously made a keen observation of life in the naturalistically modelling he has shown. The full legs and buttocks are well articulated.
