DescriptionDiptych; An elderly samurai, Ohkubo Hikozaemon a high ranking advisor to the shogun, rides in a tub carried by two bearers, and watched by many passerbys as he enters the Edo castle. (He was protesting the order that the samurais could not come to the castle in a palanquins. When a guard questioned him, he said, "Wash tub is not a palanquin". The order was later abolished.)Status
