DescriptionThe original of this silk brocade had been preserved in the Horyuji Monastery from a period prior to the 8th Century until it was donated to the Imperial Household Department. The frabrication dates from the Han Dynasty in China. The white tiger & red phoenix represent two of the four deities in Chinese tradition. The intervening spaces between the circular designs are filled with running deer & galloping horses facing each other. Multicoloured fringe both ends.Status
