Art Tours
In addition to visiting local galleries and artists' studios, the Gallery Associates arrange tours, varying in length, to other parts of Vancouver Island such as Tofino, the Pacific Rim, and the Cowichan Valley, as well as to the mainland visiting the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Museum of Anthropology and South Granville galleries. Further afield, trips have been made to Portland/Seattle, San Francisco/Napa Valley, Montreal, New York, and Cuba. Trips include either an accompanying curator/guide or an in situ guide is hired.
In 2010 the Gallery Associates have made a one-day visit to the Vancouver Art Gallery's beautiful exhibit Imagining the Modern Woman on loan from the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, as well as to the $5.5million newly renovated Museum of Anthropology galleries. On a three-night-four-day trip, accompanied by the AGGV Director, the Gallery Associates visited Edmonton's architecturally stunning new Art Gallery of Alberta.
The cost of tours varies with destination and duration, but each includes a per-person fund-raising amount, which aids the Gallery Associates' ability to make its annual donation to the AGGV.
