George Wallace

Canadian, 1920 - 2009
BiographyGeorge Wallace is known for his sculpture and perhaps even more so for his graphics. He taught in the Fine Arts Department at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario (1960-85) before moving to Victoria upon his retirement. In Victoria he continued his practice and was involved with the Gallery, acting as a consultant with regards to it print collection. Born in Ireland in 1930 and emigrated to Canada in 1957. His sculptural style remained separate from the so called Angry Young Sculptors, a group of his contemporaries in Britain including Henry Moore who favoured abstraction.
In 2001, the AGGV and AGH co-organized the exhibition George Wallace: Sculpture and Graphics which featured an overview of his nationally recognized career.
