George Wallace

George Wallace is known for his sculpture and perhaps even more so for his graphics. He taught in the Fine Arts Department at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario (1960-85) before moving to Victoria upon his retirement. In Victoria he continued his practice and was involved with the Gallery, acting as a consultant with regards to it print collection. Born in Ireland in 1930 and emigrated to Canada in 1957. His sculptural style remained separate from the so called Angry Young Sculptors, a group of his contemporaries in Britain including Henry Moore who favoured abstraction.

In 2001, the AGGV and AGH co-organized the exhibition George Wallace: Sculpture and Graphics which featured an overview of his nationally recognized career.
