John Arthur FraserCanadian, 1838 - 1898

Born in England, Fraser settled in Montreal working as a photographer tinter for Notman studios. He was a major figure in establishing the Society of Canadian Artists. He left Montreal and went into partnership with Notman in Toronto where he was also responsible for organizing the OSA. He is a major figure in Canadian art history. His landscapes are important to Canadian art due to their relationship to photography, the interest in capturing light effects expressing nature's sublime qualities.
