The finest and most comprehensive collection of Japanese shin hanga in Canada will be on display at the Art Gallery of Victoria in an exhibition opening on Oct. 31, 2014.

Beginning this month, you can see China through the eyes of a 19th century Westerner at an exhibition of nearly 100 Chinese export paintings. The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is showcasing the paintings, the majority of which were from the collection of Sir James Brabazon Urmston, who worked in China for the British East India Company in the 1800s.

In her own words, Emily Carr said she had nothing in common with her own generation and much more in common with the young generation. In Victoria, the younger artists recognized Carr’s talent and were influenced by her—and would likely be honoured to know their work will be displayed alongside Carr’s at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria this fall.

Canada’s favourite hitchhiking robot, hitchBOT has decided to lengthen its stay in Victoria with an extended visit to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. hitchBOT will take up residence in the AGGV’s lobby beginning Tuesday, Aug. 26 and plans to stay until Friday, Sept. 12.
